It is important to master calmness and quietness. This is because we need it to process things before reacting to them. When something happens, your first reaction to it is a determinant of what will happen next. Naturally, the flesh, the human mind becomes fearful when horrific things happen, however, more horrific things can happen if you fail to control fear resulting from an occurrence.

It is one thing to be diagnosed of cancer by the doctor, and it is another thing to actually die of cancer. You will agree with me that the two occurrences are different. Your reaction to the news of been diagnosed of cancer will determine what happens after you got your diagnosis. This is brings me to ask you a question. What is the difference between a person who recovered completely from a cancer diagnosis and another person who died few months or years after receiving such diagnosis?

Today, I want to briefly talk about creating a shield and a defense system around yourself. A shield helps us to reduce impact of whatever is coming against us or helps us not to feel the impact at all, depending on the strength of the shield. Take a moment to imagine throwing a stone against a fenced house or an Iron Gate. Those living in the house won’t feel the impact at all.

Now, let’s see what the Bible says about shields.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Ephesians.6:16.

Developing your faith in God on a daily basis is a secret weapon that no child of God should joke with, because you faith is your defense mechanism against whatsoever the devil is bringing. This is a principle that the Bible has clearly stated. Build up your faith, because the stronger it is, the more it can withstand the attack of the enemy.

When you receive a horrifying report or news, how do you handle it? Do you allow your fear to set in and make you even more vulnerable or you attack that situation with faith? It is important that you know that you are responsible for whatever your outcome is. The shield of faith can handle anything.

Reply that situation with a word or an act of faith; that is how to use the shield of faith. Allow God to intervene over that diagnosis by replying it with faith.

Faith and fear are two opposite things thus, they can’t work together. It is either you are working in faith or you are working in fear. This is how you know you are operating in fear; when you are full of worry and when you are not seeing a way of escape, hope or God in the situation that is currently facing you. However, faith operates through confidence, calmness, quietness and stillness (waiting on God). This is how you receive strength to still keep faith when it seems that God is not working at all. Isaiah 30:15 says, “in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength”. It may look like God is not doing anything; hold on to your faith in Him. Maintain a quiet spirit; this will help you to channel your faith and to see what God can do to get you out of that situation.

Never let your guard down because the devil will be waiting for that opportune moment to rush in with his attacks. Whatever you are currently believing God for today, be it healing, your finances, academics, career, anything. Keep that faith up because your set time is around the corner. However, remember that your first reaction to that situation matters a lot. Receive it with faith and allow God to do meet your expectations.
