Just now, I was singing and a phrase came to my heart.
The surprising thing was, the worship song I was singing (in fact humming right
now) has nothing to do with the phrase that came to my mind. The phrase was, “has
your faith been tested?”
Repeating that phrase to myself, I took a pause and
asked myself the question repeatedly, as my faith been tested? Thinking about
this got me intrigued and in fact it changed what I was planning to write on totally.
I met someone (a guy now) just about two months ago
and within those two months we’ve gotten very close and built a level of trust
with each other.
Let me quickly share a story with you.
This brother is a fervent believer and a lover of God. Then his time of test came. He lost about seven million naira in just two weeks, his business got shot down within that same week and he ran into debts. Just a little digression, you don’t know the level of you spiritual strength until when test comes. What amazed me about this brother was that he kept saying “it is well”. Another digression. It is the words on which your spirit is fed that supports you when the test of your faith comes. This brother did not know how he will get the debt paid and how to start over, but he kept faith. His faith was very evident.
Has my faith been tested? The time of test, often times
coincide with the time when men get into their low moment. These are times when
it is very easy for you to compromise your faith. Indeed, you are firebrand and
a complete devote, but when you approach that zone where your faith is tested,
you have to be extra careful so as not to fall for the devil’s trap.
As if all what the brother was passing through wasn’t
enough, friends, families and business associates turned their backs on him. Family
members instead of helping him, faulted him for his woes. Don’t you think it is
a perfect time to compromise? He decided he was going to lie to the next person
about how he actually lost the money since everyone he trusted were blaming him
instead of showing some support. He was in his low moment. Although he repented
immediately after he told the lie but nothing can actually remedy that, He told
the lie already.
I wouldn’t blame him because I am not God and I have
never been in that position he was. However, the point is, what would I have
done if I was in his position. What would you have done?
There
hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful,
who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
The text above says, “who will not suffer you to be
tempted above what you are able”. This tells us that ability comes before test.
The certainty is that test will come, but when it does comes, would you have
gotten all the ability you require to face and pass such test. Equip yourself
by reading the word, prayers and fasting to be able to stand strong, with your
head tall in the evil day.
The Lord is your sufficiency!
