If you are a devout Christian lady, anybody can call you Holy Mary anytime and this is because they have seen something that you posses that they assume must have been an attribute of Holy Mary. Holy Mary is the mother of Jesus. She was a virgin when the Holy Spirit came upon her and made her to conceive a son. At this time, she was about to get married(of course you know the story). Mary had to be the vehicle for Jesus' birth because the one who saved man from his sins must be sinless but the fruit of the intercourse between a man and a woman isn't.  Also, you must know that Mary was a virgin at a time when immorality existed so she is presumed to be holy too.

This is why when you, as a lady do not associate yourself with things that people of the world do, they tend to taunt you with funny names such as this. Especially if you were raised in a Christian home and have been a Christian from childhood. That is, you have always been taught not to lie, steal, bully and you stand up for what is right. So because of this, people see you as somebody that is abnormal since you don't do what they consider normal.


Okay. I get it. Actually, it can be annoying. So you used to hate it. But see what I've come to learn is that something must distinguish you. And you are in a world where people will always be people. And it is their character to compare. Although this can be very bad sometimes. Yet the truth is that, you can only correct persons around you but you can't possibly speak to everyone and tell them to stop doing wrong things.

So this is what you must do; You adjust. Really, come to think of it. It isn't such a derogatory name.

A story was told of older Nigerian Christians that got new jobs when the term, SU which stands for Scripture Union (a Christian organization), was used to refer to staunch believers. So when a SU is in a place, her worldly coworkers are apparently at a  disadvantage because she won't encourage corrupt activities around her. These days too, when a person is called Holy Mary, she is placed at a high spiritual pedestal in the eyes of men.


And if you think of the pros and cons, you will see that there is really no con. All the things that are supposed to be cons are actually pros because they are how you should live. So the question you should ask yourself is-do I meet the standard? This should in fact spur you to do more. Yes do more!

So when next someone calls you holy Mary, mother of Jesus, SU and other similar names, don't argue or deny the name. Just reflect and see if you are meeting the mark.

Actually, this name-calling is not limited to ladies. Men go through similar things too, they are called Pastor (when they aren't). The same principle applies here too.
