The Christian faith is a peculiar “religion” (as the
world would call it); I would rather say that it is a way of life. Of cause,
Christianity as a way of life is a more familiar definition to most believers.
Different people have their different perceptions of what Christianity is or
what it should be, whether right or wrong perceptions.
My focus in this article today is to re-emphasize a
very important aspect of what Christianity is which people are leaving out or
perhaps exempting themselves from. I really think that most Christians have
consciously or unconsciously deleted out what the essence of a Christian work
and walk actually is.
Let us briefly look at Apostle Paul’s salvation
experience.
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. Acts 9:3-6 (kjv)
Apostle Paul’s experience on his way to Damascus did
not leave him the same. The most important thing that I would like to point
your attention to is that, Paul’s encounter with God made him to ask the Lord a
critical question, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” He got it right at the
point of salvation by asking the most important question.
God isn’t just interested in you attending Sunday
school, going for prayer meeting or becoming a Christian, He wants you to find
out what the purpose of your Christianity is.
It is important that I point your attention to the
fact that Paul wasn’t coerced to ask that question rather, it was an outflow of
his encounter with the Lord. This is to tell you that asking the Lord “what
would you have me to do?” is a Christian nature. Your hunger after you
encounter God is seeking His face for instructions on what He needs you for.
What did your encounter with the Lord look like? What
questions did you ask? Why did you give your life to Christ in the first place?
Perhaps you were told that once you give your life to Christ all your problems
will be solved and you won’t have to worry about anything ever again. This is
partly true, but were you also told that Christians have responsibilities? Did
the preacher tell you that the Lord Jesus Christ gave Christians a commission
to spread the gospel? Mark 16:15.
What
did you receive at the point of salvation?
This is more or less a question of what did all
Christians receive at the point of salvation. You might not have had an
encounter as special as Paul’s encounter but I am happy to announce to you that
you also received an assignment from God. I am not telling you to drop out of
school and go to a seminary, neither am I saying that you should become an
Apostle. Take a moment right now and ask the Lord what He would want you to do
for Him. It is as simple as that. He will tell you.
Decision
time
Decide today to seek God’s face on the purpose of your
Christianity. Nations are waiting for you. Do not leave your ministry on
pending.
