Nigeria’s Struggles and the Path to Hope: A Call for Change and Unity

By Adedoja Adewale

The world has always faced crises—whether wars, climate change, pandemics, or extinction threats. Yet today, Nigeria’s struggles feel overwhelming. Hardship has multiplied, insecurity worsens, corruption thrives, and citizens are left questioning the future.

From kidnapping on major highways to billions lost daily to corruption, the country faces a storm of issues. While it’s easy to blame leadership, Nigeria’s problems run deeper. Citizens, too, have a role to play in shaping the nation’s destiny.

Why Nigeria’s Crisis Persists

Insecurity: Rising kidnappings, robberies, and violent crimes.

Corruption: Billions stolen without accountability.
Economic Hardship: Inflation, high food prices, and unemployment.
Moral Decline: Growing acceptance of wrongdoing as “normal.”

Possible Paths Toward Change

Different groups propose different solutions:

  1. Relocation: Many dream of leaving Nigeria, but few can afford it.

  2. Good Leadership: Electing the right candidates remains crucial.

  3. Prayer and Faith: Spiritual renewal is often cited as a core solution.

But the truth is: no single tool can fix Nigeria. A combination of leadership reform, citizen responsibility, and faith-driven action is needed.

Hope in History and Scripture

Nigeria is not the first nation to face turmoil. From the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24-25) to Israel’s repeated fall and restoration, history reminds us that renewal is possible.

As 2 Chronicles 7:14 says: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face… I will heal their land.”

Signs of Hope: Nigeria’s Youth

The #EndSARS movement showed the power of unity among Nigerian youths. For once, young people set aside divisions to fight for justice and reform. This spirit of solidarity is a glimmer of hope for the future.

What Nigerians Can Do

  1. Spread the Gospel: Social media and digital platforms are powerful tools to share faith and inspire change.

  2. Be Active Citizens: Reject bribery, corruption, and the “repay evil with evil” mentality. Lead by example wherever you are.

  3. Get Involved in Governance: Obtain your PVC, vote wisely, and hold leaders accountable.

  4. Invest in the Future: See good citizenship and gospel preaching as seeds sown into Nigeria’s present and eternity.

Building the Nigeria of Our Dreams

Nigeria’s transformation requires collective responsibility. Leaders set examples, but citizens shape society too. Instead of waiting for change, let’s become the change.

The road is long, but as the saying goes, “Anything that goes up must come down.” Hardship won’t last forever if we remain united, prayerful, and active. Together, we can build a Nigeria worth boasting about.

Cheers to the Nigeria of our dreams.
