Cheers to
the times water flowed down your cheeks freely because you were sad, to the
times you felt unending pain. Cheers to the times your heart bled and you knew
that absolutely no one could ever understand what you were going through.
Cheers to the times you wanted life to end immediately because you thought it
wasn't worth it at all.
I've felt
that way severally before too. In fact, the memories are returning now.
The worst
part is that some of these times, you had no one to blame. What do I mean by this?
It was different from the times that a known person was responsible for your
pain. Then, you could not hold any particular person responsible. The world
just seemed wicked. So sad.
Pain is an
integral part of living. A life without pain is like a meal without a proper
sauce. At one point or the other, you would have to feel pain.
James
1:2-4- My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing
that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its
perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
My prayer for you is that your eyes will be opened to see the beauty in your pain. You learn endurance, you discover yourself and you get a deeper revelation of God in this state.
In fact as a
believer, a painless life is a waste. Listen, the pain we are talking about is
not the pain that is birthed by the gospel; it is the result of the normal
course of living.
When you
don't understand how it feels to be hungry, how would you comfort those that
are hungry? When you don't know what it means to fail, what do you tell a
failure? Of course, the Holy Spirit is always available to teach you all
things. But sometimes when you speak from experience, your words becomes
weightier.
If you have
ever lost a parent, you will understand me better. You know how you feel when
someone whose parents are alive says "I know what you're going
through"? Yes. That's it.
What baffles me mostly is seeing a believer fall into depression because of a pain he/she experienced. What?! Do you know who you are? You should never allow anything, no matter how big it is to steal your joy. Fight it! Choose joy.
Now to the
great question. What should you do when you are in pain?
1. First,
what does the Bible say about your situation? Read it. Let it ring in your
head. They are like the shock absorbers. The Bible is living. It is capable of
turning circumstances around in your favour. Psalm 30:5b- Weeping may endure
for a night, But joy comes in the morning.
2. Speak with God about it. You don't need to
follow any special prayer pattern. Just talk to him like you would talk to your
friend. However, watch your words. Pain is not an excuse to be a "spoilt
brat".
3. Allow the
pain to flow. Don't stop it. Don't resist it. You become stronger that way.
Know that the pain is a success when you learn from it. Open your heart to
learn. God will speak with you. Listen to him. Allow your thoughts to flow. As
they do, the Lord counters them with his response. Do you know what I'm talking
about? Yes. Good.
4. You can
speak with a trusted believer too. A person whose substance is the word of God
is whom you should speak with. Not somebody that is not founded on the
scriptures. People like that can lead you astray. And make you to lose
everything.
This one is
important. Never feel less strong and never feel stupid because of your pain.
Don't allow anyone to make you feel that way too. You are perfectly normal for
feeling pain. The more pain you feel, the stronger you grow. God's strength is
made perfect in weakness.
Cheers to
the battles you will win. Cheers to the trophies you will get. Cheers to your
strength that will grow. Cheers to the gospel!
